Four Ways To Prepare Your Roof For Summer

With summer around the corner, it is important to make sure your homes roof is in peak condition.  With the crazy weather we've had here in Spring Texas and surrounding area, it's even more important to make sure your roof will perform as intended this year and beyond.

1. ROOF INSPECTIONS:

As your home’s first line of defense from the elements, you should inspect and maintain your roof to ensure it is prepared to withstand wind, rain, hail, and other environmental factors. A visual inspection from the ground can help you notice issues quickly. Catching small issues early can prevent larger problems later!

2. CLEAN THOSE GUTTERS:

We cannot express enough how clean and debris free gutters are important in your roofs life.  Many roof repair calls we have taken are due to clogged gutters where the rain backs up and causes roofing leaks and damage needing unnecessary siding repair.  Regularly cleaning leaves and debris from gutters allows water to flow away from your roof. Homes with tall trees and foliage close to the house may need to clean gutters more frequently than those without. Keep in mind, strong winds may blow debris onto your roof or gutters, even if trees are not next to your house.

3. TRIM THOSE BRANCHES

Branches close to or above your home are sure ways to have debris end up on your roof.  It does not take much wind to break of limbs and branches from nearby trees all which can puncture a perfectly good roof.  A small hole by a branch can lead to thousands of dollars in repairs if not addressed in a timely manner.  Keep an eye out for random branches on your roof and make arrangements to have someone with roofing experience remove it for you.

4.  ROOF REPAIRS

All homes will eventually need some type of roof repair as the home ages.  Be sure to take note of and fix any issues in a timely fashion. Fixing problems early can extend the life of your roof. If there is any question whether or not a roofing repair is safe for you to fix yourself, remember to stay safe, and consult your local roofer.
